Animal Welfare
The single most important thing that we can do to save cats and dogs from all the suffering and death that their overpopulation causes is to spray and neuter them. Spraying and neutering are routine, affordable surgeries that can prevent thousands of animals from being born, only to suffer and struggle to survive on the streets, be abused by cruel or neglectful people, or be euthanized in animal shelters for lack of a loving home.
Mumbai is home to millions of street dogs. HCWT was set up to help improve the welfare of stray & abandoned dogs in Mumbai by addressing the main source of all problems — overpopulation. The only ethical and the most effective way of managing a street dog population is through mass spray/ neuter programmes. HCWT has sterilized and vaccinated over 9200 + dogs and cats so far.
Dogs and cats are brought in by the public as well as by our Animal rescue team & volunteers. In 2016 the mass spray / neuter programme had been expanded to Mumbai Suburban which is home to an estimated 10 lakh street dogs.
HWCT INDIA FOUNDATION FORMED IN 2014 AN NGO, OPENING THE STATE- OF-ART ANIMAL REHAB FACILITY WITH ITS OPERATIONAL PARTNER UNIVERSAL ANIMAL WELFARE SOCIETY.
HWCT India Foundation has partnered with Universal Animal welfare society which is BMC approved facility for Spray and Neutering for Dogs and Cats. With the flattering experience of handling over 90K cases and saved over 15K precious lives since 2010, this facility will be saving more lives everyday. The state-of-the-art Animal Hospital needs the restoration and need your support in building the hospital to serve more strays. The programs will ensure that every life is given a second chance by giving them timely treatment and take the necessary efforts to save life.

SUCCESS STORY
RESCUING THE INNOCENT!
There was a dog that was trapped in a sewage tank. This also happened in society in Mumbai. There are many stray dogs and so many incidences, where often the precious lives are lost due to untimely help at the site. In this case, there was sewage that was not closed properly, and this poor dog fell inside. Luckily the society watchman called our rehabilitators work who swung into action immediately. They carefully got the dog without hurting it. It was cleaned with water and checked if there was any wound. It was taken to our clinic where all tests were done to see the dog did not have any internal injury. It was fed with good food and taken care of for 3 weeks until he was fit to be released back to the streets where he belonged.

ANIMAL WELFARE - IMPACT
- Spray Neuter Program: Mumbai is home to millions of street dogs. We run a Trap, Neuter, Return (TNR) program for feral cats and Dogs in Mumbai and Pan Maharashtra to help control and contain the strays population. it is important that they are neutered to prevent further breeding and are health checked to prevent the spread of diseases such as Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV) and Feline Leukaemia Virus (FeLV). Universal animal welfare society, was set up to help improve the welfare of stray & abandoned dogs in Mumbai recognized by BMC to address the main source of all problems — overpopulation. Universal has sterilized and vaccinated over 90,000+ dogs and cats so far. The program is supported and recognised by Government of Maharashtra.
- Free Medical Treatment / OPD Clinic:
We support free preventative vet care including neutering, vaccinations, defleaing and worming treatments Free of Cost. We make sure all the dogs have plenty of food and our dedicated Animal Welfare Officers are always there to help, no matter how difficult the situation may be. The full time doctor is serving the admit animals and is also available on call for the emergency cases.
- Abandoned Cases: The pets which are abandoned become home less and starve to death is such conditions due to mental trauma. Such cases will be rescued and sheltered at the present rehab facility and will be open for the adoption programs through their volunteers and supporters.
- Shelter Home: The pets which are not adopted due to their medical conditions will continue to remain at the shelter for good. There shall be provisions made to ensure that the lives are saved in the best possible manner.
